Visa for Suriname: what you need
To visit Suriname as a tourist you need a passport with sufficient validity on arrival plus, depending on your nationality, either a tourist card or an e-visa. The rules have changed several times in recent years, so check them shortly before departure.
Check this This changes. Verify it before you travel with the Surinamese embassy and your own government’s travel advice, we keep this page current, but a page is no substitute for the source itself.
Suriname has used both the tourist card and the e-visa in recent years, and the conditions per nationality have been adjusted more than once. What applied last year does not automatically apply this year.
What is constant: you need a passport valid on arrival, evidence of onward or return travel, and an address where you are staying. On arrival at Johan Adolf Pengel these are asked for in practice.
Apply before departure, online or through the Surinamese representation in your country. Do not leave it to the last day, processing can take several days.
In short
- Passport with sufficient validity remaining on arrival
- Tourist card or e-visa, obtained before departure
- Proof of return or onward travel
- Address of your first night’s accommodation
Frequently asked questions
Do you need a visa for Suriname?
It depends on your nationality. Suriname operates a tourist card for some countries and an e-visa for others, and that split has changed several times in recent years. Check the current rules with the Surinamese representation in your country before booking.
Can you get a tourist card on arrival?
Do not count on it. Arrange your tourist card or e-visa online before you travel; processing can take several days and airlines can refuse boarding without a valid document.
