About us
A small tour company in Paramaribo
Switi Tours is an independent tour company in Paramaribo running half-day and full-day tours in Dutch, English and Sranan Tongo, in groups of two to eight, sold only directly and never through booking platforms.
"Switi" means sweet in Sranan Tongo. It is the word you hear here when something is good, food, music, a day. That is roughly the ambition.
The company is run by two people: a guide in Paramaribo who runs the tours, and a partner in the Netherlands who handles the website, the findability and the admin. That is the whole organisation. No office in between, no call centre, no platform.
Why that matters to you: when you send a message it reaches the person who will show you around. When you ask whether a tour suits your 78-year-old mother or your 9-year-old, you get an honest answer rather than a sales pitch, which is why every tour page also states plainly who it is not for.
And because there is no 20–30% platform commission in between, the price you see is roughly half what the same day costs on an international booking site. That is the entire commercial logic of this business, and we have put the comparison on its own page so you can check it yourself.
[PLACEHOLDER: the section about the guide goes here, name, how long in Paramaribo, why these tours, with a photograph. This is the most important thing missing from this page: people book with a person, not with a company name.]
Frequently asked questions
Who guides the tours?
A guide who lives in Paramaribo and grew up there. Tours are not subcontracted to rotating freelancers: you get the same person you exchanged messages with. [PLACEHOLDER: fill in the guide’s name, photograph and background before launch.]
Why are groups capped at eight?
Because above 8 people you no longer fit around one table in a warung and the guide can no longer talk to everyone. It becomes a guided tour instead of a conversation. 2 to 8 is the whole range.
Are you a registered business?
Yes. [PLACEHOLDER: insert Suriname Chamber of Commerce registration number.] Suriname has no quality mark for guides, the Suriname Tourism Authority was established in law in June 2023 but is not yet operational, so we cannot show you one. What we can do is put every price and every plan in writing beforehand.
Do you work with booking platforms?
No, deliberately. Platforms charge 20–30% commission which ends up in your price. We sell only directly, through this site, email and WhatsApp.
