What to pack for Suriname
For Suriname, pack light but long: thin long sleeves against mosquitoes, repellent with DEET, a rain jacket even in the dry season, shoes with grip for the forest, and cash in small notes.
It is warm and humid year-round: expect 30 to 33 °C by day and around 23 °C at night. Cotton does not dry here; quick-drying fabrics are more comfortable.
The commonest mistake is packing only short sleeves. Mosquitoes bite at the start and end of the day, and thin long sleeves are both more comfortable and more effective than repellent alone.
A rain jacket or poncho belongs in the bag even in the dry season. Showers are short but heavy, and umbrellas turn inside out.
For Brownsberg and Peperpot you need shoes with grip; flip-flops do not work there. For the city a sandal is fine.
