Five days in Suriname: city, plantations, interior and creek
Five days based in Paramaribo covers the historic centre, the Commewijne plantations, Brownsberg with the reservoir, Colakreek and a food tour. The tours come to €310 per person.
Five days is the point where a trip to Suriname stops being only a city visit. You can get into the interior once and recover once, and that is exactly the right ratio.
Do not put Brownsberg on the last day. It is eleven hours, you leave at 05:30, and you want a day afterwards that asks nothing of you.
Who it is for: The most practical length for seeing Suriname beyond Paramaribo without sleeping in the interior.
-
Day 1
Day 1: arrive and get into the city
You land rested or not, but stay awake until dark. The late-afternoon walking tour (€35 pp) is exactly right for that.
-
Day 2
Day 2: Commewijne
Across the river to the plantations and Peperpot (€75 pp). Seven hours, back in the afternoon.
-
Day 3
Day 3: into the interior
Brownsberg and the Brokopondo reservoir (€95 pp). Eleven hours, leaving at 05:30. Plan nothing after this.
-
Day 4
Day 4: recover by the water
Colakreek (€60 pp) is the rest day Brownsberg makes necessary: swimming in blackwater, a hammock, lunch. Eight hours but no effort.
-
Day 5
Day 5: eat, then leave
Food tour from 15:30 (€45 pp) if your evening flight allows. Otherwise the morning variant or the cooking class.
